Abandoned Mine in Cameron

There are over 500 abandoned uranium mines on the Navajo Nation, primarily left from the Manhattan Project. These mines have contaminated the land, water and air on the reservation, which has been linked to high rates of cancer. My undergraduate senior thesis project, which will be published at the beginning of 2026, focused on the Indigenous scientists researching these mines and looking to mitigate their health impacts.
